Five Great Sources For Your Daily Dietary Fiber

One of the most forgotten of the necessary daily foods is dietary fiber. Found in fresh foods such as fruits, vegetables, whole grains and nuts, fiber is essential for many biological processes inside of your body. Many folks think they are getting high levels of daily fiber because they eat a lot of bread. But, is this true?

Unfortunately, it's not. First of all, the vast majority of bread that is consumed in our society is bread that is produced with enriched white flour, which is made from wheat that has been stripped of most of the fibrous bran coating, taking the essential goodness and many of the nutrients along with it. Even many of the breads one can find that are labeled "Whole Wheat" are still produced with white flour as it's cheaper and produces a softer bread. So, with getting enough fiber from bread out of the question - what are some other sources of fiber?

1) Fruits - there are many fruits that are very high in fiber, such as apples, raisins, prunes, etc. If the fruit is more flesh than juice (think an apple compared to an orange), it is usually loaded with fiber.

2) Vegetables - once again, healthy foods to the rescue. Crunchy vegetables are loaded with fiber - even celery, which supplies the body with fewer calories than you burn just eating it, has a good amount of fiber.

3) Beans - beans are LOADED with fiber! Ever wonder why chili gives you gas? Yep, it's the fiber.

4) Breakfast Cereals - if you're the type that likes a bowl of Cheerios in the morning, you're in luck. There are many breakfast cereals that are absolutely loaded with fiber - just ensure that you're getting one that isn't also loaded with sugar!

5) Supplements - there are tons of commercial supplements on the market that will supply you with fiber. Colon cleanses are one of the many supplements that are designed around supplying the body with the correct amount of daily dietary fiber to ensure that the digestive system is healthy, and to reduce the temptation to snack as fiber helps you feel more "full" for a longer period.

Hopefully this gives you a few other places than bread where you can look for your daily dietary fiber intake. Don't forget, the more fiber you eat, the more healthy your digestive system is and the more full you'll feel throughout the day!
